There are many second chance stories in progress. Some people
have just realized that they have received a second chance. Others are
in the middle of doing something productive with them. Some have had
success and are finding ways to give back. All are inspiring and motivating in their
own ways.

Overcoming
the loss of his leg from a road side bomb, post traumatic stress disorder, abuse
of alcohol and pills, and 42 surgeries, Petty Officer Daniel "Doc" Jacobs is in
active duty with the Navy and a marathoner.
Second Chance for Teens in trouble, Houston, Texas
Parents were giving up, when a new program changed the lives of their at risk teens who had been in trouble with the law, school, and home. A new Mental Health Court initiative has rebuilt relationships in families and turned around attitudes of the teenagers, who otherwise would have been place in juvenile detention. The program includes a combination of therapy, medication, after school programs and family intervention.
Widowed Seniors from Ironton, Ohio overcoming and giving back through quilting
Every afternoon, 20 Seniors meet to stay active both mentally and physically by making quilts for patients at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Huntington, West Virginia. Last month, they donated 60 quilts and delivered them personally, spending time with the Veterans.
Elizabeth Fonseca is surviving pancreatic cancer and
thriving in life.
In Denver, Colorado, she and her family are giving back. Through
a running race they are giving hope to other cancer survivors. Elizabeth told
Kdvr news: "I'm a 10 year thriver. I was able to see and meet my 3
grandchildren and I was able to finish my teaching career."
Lost at sea for a week, three men triumphed over what seemed impossible
Their fishing boat capsized. They had only potato chips, bubble gum, and water used to clean the boat. They survived, even after the Coast Guard rescuers had given up hope.
